Step 3: Construction
DESIGN-BUILD (optional)
Rather than a traditional design, bid, and build approach, iCon Golf Studio offers an alternative design-build process, which gives us the ability to manage the golf course construction cost-effectively while maintaining the integrity of our primary goal: to design, create and maintain aesthetically unique, functionally sensible, and playable and memorable golf courses for our clients. GrassRoots Golf Design works in collaboration with the industry's top golf course contractors utilizing an experienced team of specialized designers, shapers, and site managers experienced in their craft to deliver the highest quality project - on time and on a budget!
CONSTRUCTION PHASE SERVICES
This phase of the work aims to provide construction observation for the golf course construction process to ensure the final quality of the golf course and to confirm contractor conformance to the plans, details, and specifications.
There are no shortcuts or substitute designers. Whether strictly providing the course design or serving as the general contractor as part of a complete design & build package, senior designer Todd Schoeder personally commits to spending substantial time on every project throughout the entire process, from preliminary planning to final grow-in.
GROW-IN
As a former golf course superintendent and golf course builder, principal designer Todd Schoeder is keenly aware of the challenges, and needs of a successful grow-in, which can make or break a project financially, aesthetically, and overall playability.
During this period, we work closely with the Superintendent to achieve technical success in establishing good dense turf, identifying mowing patterns to suit maintenance practices, aesthetics, and playability, and creating the overall look and style of the original design concept. Working with the greenkeeping staff, we can help establish maintenance regimes that affect — and ultimately enhance — the course design, such as bunker presentation, mowing patterns, rough establishment, and so on.
This close working relationship is mutually beneficial, as not only does it help assure our team that the integrity of the course design will be maintained, but it also creates an added measure of enthusiasm and ownership for the Superintendent and the greenkeeping staff.
GOLF COURSE STANDARDS MANUAL
The final piece of the puzzle is that we provide warranty inspections for the constructed project. In conjunction with the golf course superintendent and management team, establish the Maintenance Design Guidelines and Standards to guide the finished golf course's final playability, strategy, and character.
